Sustainable Development

Citizen Monitoring of Fair Price Shops (FPS) in Public Distribution System (PDS) in the state of Karnataka (with DASRA-Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives-APPI)

The project supported by DASRA and APPI aims at standardizing the citizen monitoring process towards improving the functioning of FPS that can be replicated across geographies and other public services.

Sustainable Financing of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Karnataka

The sustainable financing is a project envisaged by the Directorate of Municipal authority to study the existing scenario of revenue optimisation and mobilisation in the Urban Local Bodies of Karnataka done by a consortium of 4 different organisations including PAC, Janagragha, Indian Institute of Human Settlements and ISEC.

Women and Child Development

Improving Service Delivery for the Welfare and Development of Children under the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) with the Women and Child Department (Government of Karnataka)

The three year project supported by the Women and Child Department, Government of Karnataka will work at enabling community ownership of Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) centres to hold accountable service providers in the ICDS service delivery value chain.

Study on the linkages between Women Empowerment and Human Development: Himachal Pradesh
(With Azim Premji University)

This project along with Azim Premji University will study to understand the nature of and the factors contributing to the robust human development trajectory that the state of Himachal Pradesh has demonstrated and to explore the possible linkages between Women Empowerment, Health, Nutrition and Education (WEHENE).

School Education

Learning outcomes among children from disadvantaged families in Karnataka (with the University of Glasgow)

This project supported by the University of Glasgow aims to positively impacting the beliefs, aspirations and agency of parents belonging to poor marginalised communities (scheduled castes/tribes and minorities) in Rural Northern Karnataka, by improving educational/learning outcomes of children of socio-economically disadvantaged families.

Enhancing Community Ownership of Schools to Improve Outcomes: Social Accountability and Capacity Building (Department of Primary and Secondary Education DPSE– Government of Karnataka)

Supported by Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives (APPI) and Dasra, this project aims to transform School Development Management Committees (SDMCs) through empowered communities, thereby improving accountability among service providers and enhancing learning outcomes.


Will women be a part of India’s future workforce? The Quest for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth in India. (With Southern Voice)

The Southern Voice State of SDGs (SVSS) country case study will elaborate on progress in achieving SDGs 4  (Education and skilling), 5(Gender equality) and 8 (Labour, livelihood and employment) within the context of India. More specifically, this study will understand the effect of skilling on women’s participation in the Indian labour market. Given the alarming decline in female labour force participation rates not only in India but across the world, this study seeks to shed light on barriers and enablers to equitable labour force participation that will drive the SDG 8 dialogue during the High Level Political Forum of 2019. Through collaboration with other research teams from the Global South and the Southern Voice-Think Tank Initiative,PAC’s country case report will be a part of the Global “State of SDGs” report that is set to be released in 2019.
Establish and Institutionalise the International Migration Centre Karnataka (IMCK)

After submitting a report that laid down the basic road map for setting up of the International Migration Centre for Karnataka to the Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Department (Government of Karnataka),  we will now help the Government implement and set up the International Migration Centre.

Public Affairs Index

In light of the increased inequalities that plagues a nation like India, PAI is an evidence based template to assess the quality of governance in a political economy that could serve as a universal model at national, sub national and local levels. The Index based on secondary data in the public domain, is free from ideology and can be applied to all forms of government.

District Good Governance Index (DGGI) (Government of Himachal Pradesh)

  • A spin-off from the second edition of Public Affairs Index was a request from the state government of Himachal Pradesh to prepare a similar index at the district level known as the Himachal Pradesh District Good Governance Index. The project also seeks to assess the regional imbalances for corrective action and holistic development for the future.

District Industry Index (Government of Kerala)

The PAI inspired data driven framework was the foundation of yet another project that would enable the State Government of Kerala to measure and compare the performance of the 14 districts of Kerala in terms of their productivity, competitiveness and friendliness in the Industrial Sector. The study will assist the State Government of Kerala to assess the governance /Industry friendliness of the state as seen in the industrial sector within the14 districts with the intention of creating healthy competition among the districts of Kerala so as to improve their efficiency in the Industries sector, and their ability to woo industries to the districts.
