Working with Public Affairs Centre

Public Affairs Centre (PAC), is a 23-year old non-partisan not-for-profit civil society led think tank dedicated to mobilizing demand for good governance in India. PAC focuses primarily in areas where citizens and civil society organizations can play a proactive role in improving governance.

PAC developed the first Citizen Report Card (CRC) and has been in the forefront of the design, testing and spread of several path-breaking social accountability tools. PAC now works with Community Score Cards, Participatory Budgets, Climate Change Score Cards and Community Monitoring of infrastructure.

Job description at entry level (Programme Associate, Programme Officer)

– Design and Management of Research

– Coordination of field activity

– Documentation of work, preparation of publications and dissemination

– Contribution to reflection activity of the Centre

– Any other work assigned by the Director, PAC

While new recruits are attached to running projects, over time they are encouraged to initiate, design and manage new activities in line with the goals of the Centre.

The staff team at PAC is nominally divided into work groups (Participatory Governance Research, Public Policy Research, Citizen Action Support, Environmental Governance). A new recruit is attached initially to one group, but all team members are expected over time to work with projects of at least two groups.

Salaries
The salary structure of the Programme Staff consists of six scales (P1 – P6) ranging from Rs.10,000/- to Rs.1,40,000/-. Entry level salaries (Programme Associate, Programme Officer) range from Rs.20,000 to 25,000 (gross) which may increase to Rs.23,000 to 29,000 (P4) after successful completion of the probation period (six months) and confirmation in a regular scale. All PAC staff are annually appraised on the basis of a scientific peer scoring system, and decisions on increments, promotions and growth are made on these findings.

Besides the salary, confirmed PAC staff are also entitled to other welfare benefits such as Employees Provident Fund, Gratuity, Health insurance, Personal Accident insurance, limited Staff transportation support. We also follow a five-day week and are housed in our own premises with state-of-the-art IT facilities.

Interns on short term assignments are also welcome to work with our teams. Interns are provided with office facilities and project travel support if necessary. They are requested to bring their own laptops for the period of their internship. Interns are not remunerated.
