Internship Opportunities

The Public Affairs Centre (PAC) offers interesting and challenging internship opportunities to the best and the brightest students pursuing undergraduate and graduate studies in reputed academic institutions in India and overseas. Students who have an interest in the dynamics of human development and the social sector with a focus on public governance, social accountability, community engagement, inclusion and equity, and research at the intersection of science and society would find interning at the PAC rewarding. In the past, our interns have been from diverse streams – economics, sociology, development studies, public policy, social work etc.

In addition to these disciplines, this year the PAC encourages students of public health, gender studies and school education to apply. PAC provides hands-on experience of working on real world research and field work. The internship is a mutually beneficial one – for the students it provides an opportunity to learn the various aspects of research methodology and also gain credits for the courses attended by them while the PAC would benefit from the new and innovative ideas that the interns are encouraged to bring to the projects they work on.

Over the years, the demand for interning at the PAC has grown. We receive competitive applications from universities and institutions from across India. Besides some of the prestigious schools in India, our interns also include some from the University of Minnesota, USA and the National University, Singapore. To make our internship programme more broad-based, increase the number of interns joining us and to provide for internship options round the year, we have standardised the process for the year 2017-18.

The following guidelines would govern the internship programme from the ensuing year onwards:

  1. PAC will take 12 interns at a time.
  2. The internship will be for a minimum period of 6 weeks and a maximum period of 12 weeks.
  3. Each intern will be assigned to a specific research group and will work on an on-going project.
  4. The intern will be required to write a paper (5000 words or more) in fulfilment of the internship.

Applicants will be required to submit an online application endorsed by the academic supervisor or the dean of the university/institution concerned.

The head of the research group will ensure that the work done by the interns, period of internship, and their performance are documented and their work certified on completion of the internship.
